The Spring 2018 Book Sale has ended and
our semi-annual event was another terrific success. With the proceeds, George
Mason Friends will be able to once again provide a $50,000 grant for the
Fairfax County Public Library Summer Reading Program; sponsor the adult and
children's programming at George Mason Regional Library; provide supplemental
professional development funds for our hard-working library staff; and help
fund important literary events like Fall for the Book.
An event like our book sale requires
thousands of hours of time, muscle (and sweat) of adult and student volunteers
who set up the sale, staffed it, cleaned up afterwards, and sorted, categorized
and priced donations throughout the year.
It also requires lots and lots of
donated material. We get wonderful books, DVDs, CDs, and audio books from
our community every week, year around.
An additional essential component of
the event is the patience of the library staff, who tolerate the week of
upheaval and disorder with smiles and goodwill.
And the final essential component of
a terrific sale, certainly not least, are our customers from the community. We love
seeing old friends who have been coming for years and greeting new customers.
We look forward to seeing you again at our next book sale in September 2018.
THANK YOU ALL!
