                                 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
                 for Semi-Annual Book Sales
                Next Sale: APRIL 23-27, 2025

We are always in need of volunteers, teens and adults, for our semi-annual book sales.

Please see below for more information on positions and tasks.

TEENS
  • Help move book boxes; unpack and arrange books (Suitable for high school students)
  • Pack unsold items and move to the loading area (Suitable for middle school and high school students)
ADULTS
  • Cashier, maintain tables, pack up unsold items
POSITIONS

Volunteers typically serve the following roles, with a minimum commitment of a 2-4 hour block:

  • Set-up and tidying: Put up tables, unpack and arrange books. Volunteers also keep tables organized during the sale.
  • Cashiers and assistant cashiers: Cashiers total up customer purchases and handle cash, checks, and credit cards using a Square reader and iPad; assistants read out prices and help customers bag their purchases.
  • Close down: pack up and restore the library to its normal layout after the sale.
  • Hospitality: Help set up, serve and clean up lunches for volunteers during the sale.
BENEFITS

Well, we think the book sales are an awful lot of fun. We're working with a friendly, interesting, and dedicated group of people, and there's always great food in the break room. For middle and high school students, it is a great way to earn some community service hours.

You'll also get pre-sale buying privileges! Volunteers may purchase a few books on the Wednesday before the sale. Restrictions:
  • The quantity of pre-sale purchases are limited (the actual number will be determined closer to the sale).
  • The purchases must be for personal use -- sorry, no book re-sellers.
  • Special items in the display cases can't be purchased before the sale opens.

From time to time, we need volunteers for processing operations, such as sorting donations, screening and pricing books, assisting in selling books online, and working on advertising projects.  There are no openings at this time. We will post here when positions are available.
