ART BOOKS - Fall Preview

This fall you will find a variety of Art books in the Art and Architecture section of the book sale.  Some of the offerings address very unique art forms, as well as books on fashion and about artists and their influence on fashion.

 How to Wrap Five Eggs discusses a unique Japanese art form. The book provides the origins, materials, and use of this art  form, accompanied by black and white photos. Price: $10.00.
The Art of the Ball Point includes an explanation of this technique as highlighted by featured artists and exercises. Price: $6.50.


 
 
 Sonia Delaunay, an abstract artist, transformed art and fashion. Designs took on her geometric shapes in the 1920’s. This work is priced at $6.50


     


 
  

Titanic Style provides both images of fashion aboard the Titanic as well as historical analysis. $7.50. 




                 




The Art section also includes a vast array of books on Japanese art, including well-known wood block prints, as well as painters, drawings, and sketchbooks of famous Japanese artists. Below is a selection of what will be available.        


   
The two-volume Sketchbook of Hiroshige contains beautiful plates of his work. Price: $6.50.  A guide to Hiroshige’s prints is also available. Price: $3.50.







The Theatrical Prints of the Torii Masters – A Selection of 17th and 18th century Ukiyo-e contains theatrical illustrations for the Edo Kabuki stage.  The single sheet wood block prints were published between the 1670’s and 1760’s.  Price: $3.50.









The series of wood block Meiji prints convey social changes occurring in mid-to-late 19th century Japan. Price: $12.00.
 




 


 

The Japanese Print provides an historical guide and introduction to Japanese prints. Price: $3.50









Essays on Japanese Art offers a series of essays by various artists that were presented to the renowned Japanese art expert Jack Hillier. Price: $5.00. Another selection, The Japanese Picture Book is a compilation by Jack Hillier from the Revicz Collection. Price: $5.00 each.
 







Samurai Painters contain beautiful full-page color examples of their works.  Price: $10.00.








                                                         

A catalog of Japanese Women Artists spans 300  years from 1600 to 1900.  The catalog contains illustrations and photographs in both black and white and color. Price: $4.00.


Books about Ukiyo-e masters: Masanobu and Sharaku contain beautiful full-page color examples of their works. Price: $10.00 and $5.00 respectively.
